Many people seem to the think Dew-Code.com is run by a group of people, or some big corporation. Well, it's flattering if you have that impression, but the truth is, its just one person. While I'd love nothing more than to continue giving away my scripts, my time and experience, I do have the same needs as everyone else. If you've found Dew-Code.com , or any of the scripts found there to be helpful, please consider making a contribution.

For the year 2008, as of 8/1/08, A total of $55 USD has been contributed, or roughly $6.47 per month, for the year. While that is of course appreciated, unless more contributions are received, I will have no choice but to make future scripts available for purchase only.

Regards,
Dewed

Making the website

If you are fluent in HTML you may want to hand craft your own site, but there are also dozens of free Content Management Systems (CMS)s you could use. Some have a slight learning curve and seem difficult to customize, but most offer a lot of optional features so you can usually get what you want, but possibly not exactly how you want it. Most CMSs have forum software either included or as an add on module. Forums are a great way to create new content over time. If your site will have articles you can reference them from your forum and request feedback, spawning even more relevant content. If you wont be using a CMS, then you should still consider providing forum.

Making the website findable (aka keyword optimization)

Ok, you have a basic website just waiting to be populated with content. Write an article or post  an in depth discussion sprinkling your keywords about. You'll want to use variations on the most  popular terms that relate to your topic. As an example...

Lets pretend your site is about identity theft. What do people who are interested in identity theft type into search engines? To answer that question, visit the Overture Keyword Suggestion tool at http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/  and enter identity theft

Heres a portion of the results...
Count   Search Term
54732   identity theft
5523     identity theft protection
2098     identity theft prevention
2054     prevent identity theft
1928     identity theft statistics
1585     identity theft insurance
1450     report identity theft
1222     preventing identity theft
957       identity theft victim
945       internet identity theft.

So a section of the site devoted to protection and prevention would likely get pretty good traffic, but keep in mind, the top most term, "identity theft" in this example, will likely have a lot of competition. Be sure to also use a few of the less popular "niche" terms as well. A few carefully selected niche terms can often outperform a single popular term in sending traffic to your site.

After posting a nice in depth article on your topic you could sign up with affiliate programs selling related products and services. You could sign up for a Google Adsense account and let them deliver relevant ads based on your site's content.
