Many people seem to the think Dew-Code.com is run by a group of people, or some big corporation. Well, it's flattering if you have that impression, but the truth is, its just one person. While I'd love nothing more than to continue giving away my scripts, my time and experience, I do have the same needs as everyone else. If you've found Dew-Code.com , or any of the scripts found there to be helpful, please consider making a contribution.

For the year 2009, as of 12/16/09, A total of $50 USD has been contributed, or roughly $4.17 per month, for the year. While that is of course appreciated, unless more contributions are received, I will have no choice but to make future scripts available for purchase only.

Lights out! for an hour

You do plan to celebrate Earth Hour don't you?  Such a small and simple thing you can do to make a significant difference.  It's so dirt simple, it's genius. On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m. local time, turn off your lights for an hour. You can do that can't you?

This annual event, created by the World Wildlife Fund started out as a regional idea to get a message through to us occasionally thick headed energy consuming humans. That message being.. One person doing one thing DOES matter. The initiative began in Sydney last year when an estimated two million residents took part, cutting energy usage by more than 10% for the hour.  Organisers expect hundreds of towns and cities across the world to take part in the event and hope some capitals not officially involved, such as London and Rome, will mark the event by dimming lights on some landmarks.

Organisers insist the aim of Earth Hour is to show that communities care passionately about climate change and want to keep up the pressure on governments to act decisively.  Regardless of why you decide to participate, it is important that you do. Collectively, each of us, making one tiny little sacrifice, enduring one infinitesimal inconvenience for a mere hour can save an enormous amount of energy.

Google even got into the spirit and changed their homepage. The normally "lit up" white background was changed to "lights out" black to bring awareness to the event. Combined with the media the event has garnered, there is no excuse. Ignorance is no longer an option.... The only places where ignorance might be an option,  don't have electricity 24 hours a day anyway, so they do their part already.

Maybe if this message sinks in, and the human race does indeed "get it", people like you and me will be more prone to do that one little thing everyday. Pick up that one piece of trash blowing in the wind at the bus stop. Put that one brick in the toilet tank. Walk to the corner market once in a while. One is a very powerful number, when there are billions of them.

Anyways, I'll be doing my lights out hour playing poker by candle light, and once I've lost my bankroll of M & Ms, I'll play my acoustic guitar for a bit... Oh the agony!
