For some reason, I can no longer log into my admin. I put in my username and password but it gets redirected to my homepage. Please advise. Thank you.

Obviously somthing has been changed in your server enviroment. You could use an FTP program, or perhaps a cpanel file manager to rename the file /installdir/admin/.htaccess

Renaming that file should allow you to browse to your admin directory... but it also allows anyone else. So you could also simply rename the /admin directory to something less obvious , until you can get the admin directory password protected again.

How is that possible considering that I have not messed with the code for phplinks lately.

So what do I do after renaming the .htaccess file and admin folder? How do I get the admin directory password protected? Um... do I need to put back the original name for the .htaccess file and admin folder later? Thanks.

If you installation is viewable at /links/directory/ then the DewNewPHPLinks admin panel should be viewable at /links/admin/

On Apache webservers you would normally find a .htaccess file in a password protected directory. Possible your FTP program doesn't show you files that start with periods? They are system files after all and it's common to hide them.

Once you locate the file, renaming it would remove the password protection. Presumably your web host has some kind of control panel feature that would allow you to password protect it again. For that matter it may simply allow you to change the current password without renaming the .htaccess file at all.
