Thanks for the excellent explanation. I just did a link check on a site that I know has an Rlink on it and it does say "RLink Found". Awesome. p.s. as far as how that code got out into the wild, I got it from lunarpages.com, so you may want to contact them and make sure they are promoting the correct version of your script.
