Re:Where do I send my donation too? 7 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Hi,

Everything seems to work ok except when I try to go to the actual page for the links, I get a 404 not found. I used the auto install from my cpanel.

This is what I get --->
---------------------------------------------------
Not Found
The requested URL /linksmgr/directory/ was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

----------------------------------------------------

There are no directories named directory just a file with the same name and no ext.

Thanks

John

Ok, this likely has to do with the included .htacess file. There are several possible syntax(es? what is the plural for syntax ) you can use. Which one to use, depends on your version of Apache, and how PHP support was added to it.

Some of the known variations are ...

<Files directory>
ForceType application/x-httpd-php
#SetHandler application/x-httpd-php
#SetHandler application/x-httpd-php5
#ForceType x-httpd-php
</Files>

Check the FAQ for further details.

If none of these variatiosn work for you, then possibly your web server uses a different syntax, contact your web host provider for the exact syntax (and please let us know what it is)

It's also possible that these directives simply aren't allowed on your webserver. In that case I can only suggest asking your web host to enable it for your installation. Details on that are also in the FAQ

I have no idea what you’re talking about. I'm assuming your referring to the .htaccess file.

I do not have one in the program directory. Did you want me to add one with the:

<Files directory>
ForceType application/x-httpd-php
#SetHandler application/x-httpd-php
#SetHandler application/x-httpd-php5
#ForceType x-httpd-php
</Files>

In the file? And place this in the program directory?

Are you sure you don't have one ? Some FTP programs and web based file managers will hide files from you that start with periods. Either way, yes. A complete install will have 2 .htaccess files.

One goes in the same folder as the "directory" file. That's the one that gets the directives to tell your web server to treat the "directory" file as a PHP script.. it should contain the lines you pasted..

<Files directory>
ForceType application/x-httpd-php
#SetHandler application/x-httpd-php
#SetHandler application/x-httpd-php5
#ForceType x-httpd-php
</Files>

The other .htaccess file should be in your installation's admin directory. It password protects the admin directory.

I agree with dewed that most if not all FTP clients will by default hide your .htaccess file making it imposible to find your .htaccess file.

I use FTP Surfer and I had to uncheck a preference setting which is by default set to "Hide files starting with a period" like this=

If you are able to use CPanel through your webhost account, depending on the setup of your host account's CPanel, version etc you should also have a preference setting or option to enable or show hidden files. This is what my hosts CPanel option looks like:

And remember, the idea here is to be able to see hidden files (additionally files that start with a period like .htaccess) so that you can edit this file.

Hi, I can see mine now. I was waiting for a reply from my hosting.

There reply was:
==============================================================
2008-06-02 16:24 - SUPPORT DEPT We are not running PHP as Apache module so those directives will not work as Apache do not handle PHP files. I have been trying to search a solution for you to run extensionless PHP files via PHP interpreter but so far I have not found any. Is there any specific reason why PHP file(s) there cannot be .php?

I'm at a loss on this as I never could figure out program code. My brother always tried to teach me but for some reason I could not get it so I decided to become a PC tech.

Any help would be great

Thanks

John
