OK this is a unique one and I honestly wasn't sure where to post the message so here it is in "3rd party add-ons"...

I have setup a new website for a customer using Joomla!.
Right now the customer wants just a homepage and photos page. The client and I have been talking about website promotion & SEO, explaining that "you can have a website but that does not mean that anyone is going to find it"...which is unfortunately very true.

One of the steps I want to take for promoting his website is to have a links section on his website where I can setup recip. links using the beta version of Dew-New PHPLinks, integrating Dew-NewPHPLinks into the Joomla! website...

Here is an article I read about how to integrate any website into Joomla! using the "wrapper" menu feature from the Joomla! admin interface:
http://roster.thumann.dk/joomla_guide/#wrapping_basics

Anyone else have any comments?

I don't like using PHPLinks with an iFrame wrapper in Joomla. Way too clunky. Am I the first person who feels this way? I'd like to find a clear set of instructions for splitting the Joomla index.php template, essentially wrapping PHPLinks without using an iFrame.

Trying to google 'Dew-NewPHPLinks Joomla' returns every web hosting reseller on the planet. Can anyone suggest useful information?

Also, is there a PDF or other source of documentation for Dew-NewPHPLinks?

I found a Joomla extension that may help: Jumi - http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/edition/custom-code/1023/details

but my initial attempt to use it results in broken includes: http://bostonwebcrew.com/links2.html

but this seems like the way to go. Open to suggestions to either fix what's happening here with Jumi or recommendation for some other non-iFrame solution.

Sadly, documentation is in short supply. Other than a few regulars who pop in the forums now and then, its pretty much a one man show, and documenting is not one of my strengths.

For the SEF version, the one that runs the "directory" file as if it had a .php file extension, I would think it would be difficult to port to an actual Joomla component, but thanks for bumping this thread.. it does get me thinking.

What if you could fetch the necessary info from the Joomla database/tables to determine where the Joomla template files were, and use them. Probably more of a challenge than I can afford to spend time on right now, but it at least seems doable.

I'm too tired to play with this task right now but I'm guessing that if it's easy to change relative paths to absolute in 'directory' and elsewhere as appropriate the job will be done because Jumi is calling 'directory' correctly.

Using Jumi to wrap Dew-NewPHPLinks without an iFrame didn't work out. Too much detail. I'd be trying for days to get it right. I didn't like the Joomla wrapper feature either. Dew-NewPHPLinks breaks out of the frame when navigation links are clicked, not a huge problem but the horizontal space of a menu external to Dew-NewPHPLinks doesn't make sense.

I've decided to make my menu link to Dew-NewPHPLinks an external link, a specific type of Joomla menu item. Doing so opens Dew-NewPHPLinks full width in the browser window.

I'll customize with a home link back to the top of my site and modify Dew-NewPHPLinks to match my site, which I had planned to do anyway.

Ultimately, my decision has been to take the simplest path possible, which is a Joomla external link menu item to my /links directory.
