You are correct. I simply took an abandoned script that met most of my former employers needs. I debugged it and and added the functionality the employer wanted. Afterwards I requested Sourceforge (where I originally found it) allow me to create a new branch. The folks at Fantastico, who had been including PHPLinks since .. well possibly their first version, simply started including Dew-NewPHPLinks in it's place.
While I do my best to provide support, I am not paid by Fantastico or your hosting
provider. So please pardon my tone when I respond to some of the more insistent sounding posts.
I had long hoped to write a new version from scratch, but since I've started I've been hired a few times to add more features to the 2.01 version. Many of those tweaks are now available as add-ons to 2.01 from the download section, and most are already included in 2.1, also in the download section.
In the meantime I'm happy to do my best assisting anyone using the script to either troubleshoot it for their server environment, or to customize it. Again, I do this free of charge, something people new to the open source community seem to have difficulty understanding.
However, like everybody else, I need to eat and have a roof over my head, so unless I get some contributions in the way of cash, or programming skills, documentation.. templates.. language file translations.. really just about anything, progress will be very slow.
