Dang! Something Broke! Admin not working and other 1 Year, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
I was doing some very minor work on the website this morning, only adjusting the email_addition.php and english.php to try to diagnose why the Site ID wasn't coming through properly in the emial from email_addition.

I added a line to email_addition.php
Code:

$content .= $email_addition_4b . $id . "\n\n";
and to english.php I added a line
Code:

$email_addition_4b = "Site ID: ";
and all of a sudden things started to break. They were working fine not 20 minutes earlier. Now when I go to my admin page http://www.cozycuddles.com/resources/admin/ and sign in I get a blank page. Also when I go to my links page http://www.cozycuddles.com/resources/directory everything looks fine (ie, the banner at the top links to the file http://www.cozycuddles.com/resources/themes/cozycuddles/front.jpg) however, if I click on say the "Baby Products" link, the banner points to http://www.cozycuddles.com/resources/directory/themes/cozycuddles/front.jpg. Like I said, this was all working earlier this morning. SO... I undid the two changes. Still wouldn't work. SO... I had DreamHost restore the database and website to midnight last night. Still doesn't work. Thoughts?

Looking at the public side of your installation, I'm not seeing any problems. The header graphic displays as expected and always links to the directory main page,

maybe I'm missing something.

Note a restore of your database doesn't restore files you have edited. It sounds like there may be a critical error breaking your admin panel, and your web server is set to not show PHP error messages, normally PHP errors would then be logged in the same directory they occurred in, in a file named error_log .. but if I recall you didn't have those either.

Possibly an explanation in your Apache access logs?

That's really weird then!?!?!?

I tried initially (and it was working with IE8). Then it broke and wasn't working so I cleared the cache and tried it in IE8 again, then Firefox, then switched to a different workstation and tried it in IE8. None of them worked and it still doesn't work for me.

Hang on.... I just tried it (the public side) in Chrome and it worked, so I went back to Firefox and it worked, but it doesn't in IE8 (but did this morning). [I hate browsers!!! :)]

Okay, it must be something in IE. I'll keep hunting.

Thanks.

It's really bizarre. Under IE8 and IE7 neither the outward facing pages work properly nor the /admin page. Under Firefox, the outward ones work, but the admin one doesn't. Under Chrome both work just fine. The same behaviour happens on multiple machines too.

I'm continuing to scratch my head. *sigh* Oh well.

In most browsers, you can right click, and while holding shift, select Reload/Refresh to force it to ignore the browser's cache.

If you'd like. use the "Compose" link to the left, address your message to Dewed , tell me the url, the /admin url and if you want me to see what you see, your admin login info.

Yeah, I've tried all the cache tricks I know and still nothing. I even tried a fresh install in a Virtual Machine but got the same results.

All the logon info is the same as in the note I sent you on Sun, Jun 13 - 09:22 pm. The admin password is the same as the second database one.
